Golf Ball
Wong, Bryce. Designed 5 April 2024.
I designed this golf ball in SolidWorks to demonstrate the technical process behind generating and patterning dimples across a spherical surface. While the model appears simple, accurately creating golf ball dimples requires a solid understanding of surface geometry, patterning strategies, and the mathematical distribution of features over a sphere.
This project showcases techniques such as spherical patterning, reference geometry creation, and controlled feature replication to achieve uniform dimple coverage without distortion. It’s an excellent example of how precise CAD workflows can replicate complex real-world geometry.
The accompanying video walks through the complete modeling process from start to finish, highlighting the methods used to construct the dimples and distribute them realistically across the ball’s surface.
